Who is Michael (Mike) Parillas?
Growing up, I was no stranger to diversity. I played in sand-filled sneakers in Manama, drank soda-in-a-bag in Malabon, and ate the best donairs in Edmonton (no doubt, Richard's on 124th). I travelled from one place to another with LEGO in my pack as a Filipino kid. Being raised in different cities fine-tuned my skills in deep listening and creativity—essential to what I do today as a designer.
I’m an Edmonton-based designer, problem solver, and hyper-learner in visual communication. I identify what is meaningful and create with purpose through visual branding, illustration, and multimedia.
After graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Design, I've gained over 6 years of experience working for in-house, freelance, and pro-bono clients. In 2021, I launched my first children’s book (Tony's Wheels), supported by the City of Edmonton and the Edmonton Public Library.
When I’m not working, I’m tackling books and courses related to design, business, leadership, and personal development.
When I’m actually not working, I’m enjoying films with off-beat themes or men in suits. I recommend Hunt for the Wilderpeople or Peaky Blinders.
